10th Essex - NCO's at Christmas 1916

The 10th Essex were withdrawn from the front line on 18th December 1916 and did not return until 2 February 1917.

Even though this meant a 9 day march to Abbeville the experience was regarded as enjoyable.

Although there was some relaxation most of the time was taken with rehearsal in taking trenches in an area prepared for exercises.

In his book With the 10th Essex in France, Captain R A Chell described the experience in detail and included a photograph and details of the NCO's Group at Christmas 1916.
