Essex action at Parrdekraal 1900
On 22 April 1900 Boers had defensive
positions at Parrdekraal.
The 1st Essex advanced across an open
plain and when 1000 yards away laid down and fired at the
defenders.
An artillery barrage on the Boers made
them fall back at which point the 1st Essex advance and gained
control of the ridge putting the Boers to flight.
