1st Essex Cooks are National Champions
1930
Each year before WW2 army cooks
competed for the Army Team Challenge Shield. In January 1930 the
competition was held at the Universal Cookery and Food
Exhibition at Olympia.
The 1st Essex Regiment team won the Army
Challenge Shield in the team event. Sergeant M McCrath, Corporal
J Boggis, Private S Jennings and Private J Read all won silver
medals and diplomas.
Private F Manning won a individual
silver medal, a diploma and a silver cup.
