2nd Essex Concert Party 1918

Morale of the troops was seen as important so sports days, boxing competitions and concerts were encouraged for the men throughout the war.

Like most Battalions the 2nd Essex had their own concert party which gave regular variety performances. Initially the performances were minstrel style but as time grew so did the skills and , comedy sketches, conjurers and even ventriloquists were added.

By 1918 the performances had reached a good standard and included several men who performed as female impersonators and were very popular with the troops.

The below men performed in a concert held at St Saulve in 1918.
