44th Essex men receive Crimean War Medals

On 18 May 1855 the Queen personally presented Crimea War medals to selcected Officers of the armed forces at Horse Guards, London.

After the presentation the Queen received a few non commissioned officers and men at Buckingham Palace where they were entertained in the gardens and then provided with a dinner in the riding school.

Dinner consisted of Roast Beef, Plum Pudding and stout in abundance!
