56th West Essex Officers at embarkation for Ireland 1855

In January 1855 six companies of the 56th Essex were transported from their base in Bermuda for service in Ireland stationed at Dublin.

The stay for some was short with the war in Crimea requiring manpower.

The companies consisted of 17 officers and 542 other ranks.

Shortly after this posting Surgeon Innes left to take up a post of Surgeon with the 9th lancers in Bengal.

Remaining four companies in Bermuda

Four Companies remained in Bermuda although they were due to be relieved and join the rest of the regiment at a later date.
