Review of the 1st Battalion - 1862

On 28 August 1862 a review of the 1st Essex Volunteer Battalion took place at Abbey Farm, Colchester. The ground had recently purchased as an extension of the garrison for a Cavalry and Infantry barracks.

The Battalion was under the command of Lt Colonel Sir Clause de Crespigny, the Adjutant was Major Tufnell and the Surgeon Mr Nunn.

The Parade formed near Colchester Castle and then marched en masse to Abbey Fields where they executed a number of marching deployments in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd.
