1st Essex Artillery Volunteer Corps
The 1st Essex Artillery Volunteer Corps were formed in 1880 by amalgamating the existing 1st, 2nd and 3rd Essex Artillery Volunteers.
In 1899 the two Harwich Batteries merged with the First Suffolk Artillery Volunteer Corps to form the 1st Suffolk and Harwich Artillery with Headquarters at Harwich.
In 1908 with the start of the Territorial Army the 1st Essex supplied three Batteries to become the 2nd East Anglian Brigade Royal Field Artillery
while the 1st Suffolk and Harwich merged with the remaining Batteries to become the Essex and Suffolk Royal Garrison Artillery.
